The most spoken languages in Zimbabwe are shona (80 %), ndebele (20 %) and english is the lingua franca. Contrary to international media reports, Zimbabwe is generally a peaceful country with very warm and welcoming people. Visitors to Zimbabwe and to SAC should come with an open mind as this will make their stay a rewarding one. On weekends the Centre becomes a hive of activity, full of people and families coming to relax in an artistic atmosphere. The visitors can take this opportunity to engage local people openly and honestly as SAC is not a commercial tourist centre and distinctly hustle free.

LOCATION
SAC is situated 20 km southeast of Gweru in the Midlands province of Zimbabwe. Gweru is the provincial capital of the Midlands and is home to approx. 350.000 people. The Great Dyke, mineral rich outcrop which runs the length of Zimbabwe passes through Shurugwi (10 km south of SAC).
CLIMATE & HEALTH
Shurugwi is 1800 m above sea level and has a temperate climate. Summer (between September and April) can be hot from 28 to 34 C, the rainy season starts in November through April. Winters are from late April to August and can be very cold with night temperature dropping to freezing point. Warm and protective clothing is advisable during this time.
SAC has its own water supply immediately safe and potable.
While malaria occurs in Zimbabwe, Shurugwi is miraculously free of it, so much that if you do get it your doctor will ask you whether you have traveled outside the area. Precautionary measures such as prophylactics and repellents are however encouraged. No vaccinations are required when entering Zimbabwe.
